Nothing cures a case of the Funk like pending vacation, so I’m happy to report I’m counting down the minutes until I can put up that “Out of Office Reply.” Not only is it a long weekend for most people, but we’re also off to NYC on Tuesday for a four day excursion, which means starting at 5pm today I have 9 days of uninterrupted fun. Be jealous 😉
It’s hard to believe it’s already Memorial Day time, but the D-Spot household started prepping last weekend by purchasing a new Weber grill. Joey’s determined to be a Charcoal Grilling Machine when all is said and done. I’m just looking forward to some burgers! Of course I have a million things I want to accomplish over the next 9 days, so I figured we’d make a list and see how far we get. You know how I am with lists 😉
It may be in part because every time I go to North Carolina it’s for vacation, but I truly believe that state has a certain calming quality about it. There’s something about life by the ocean that helps put everything in perspective. Waking up to a light filled room, stepping out onto a private balcony and watching blue herons land in the marsh — a girl could get used to that.
Despite the drama of Moose deciding to go skinny dipping when it was pitch black out (anyone know ways to help with doggie anxiety???), we filled our Cup’O’Life to the freakin’ brim this weekend by way of cocktail cruises and beaching boats on private islands…
Picnic lunches on the beach, dipping toes into warm ocean water and endless games of fetch with four big labs…
And what better way to balance the Beach than with the Barn, so we took a visit to the stables where our friend’s keep their horse. I should have taken a look at their job board while I was there…
We said goodbye with happy hearts and left relaxed, content and with farmer’s tans sun-kissed.
Riggo and Moose on the other hand left comatose…
24+ hours later and they’re still nursing their fun-hangover. Girl could get used to that too 🙂
After a lot of thought, we decided to come home after our weekend in North Carolina. I could have stayed. Forever maybe. But that’s a conversation for another day.
In all honesty, after a whirlwind weekend and a 7 hour road trip North, it felt really good to be home last night. Still feels good this morning, minus the whole “have to go to work now” thing. I’ll be back soon with more pictures from our weekend that included boat rides, beach trips, barn visits, friendships and lots of Labs.
Talk about a day late and a dollar short but HELLO APRIL! April is pretty much my favorite month, and yes it has everything to do with the fact that it’s my birthday month. I love cake like a fat kid loves cake. Don’t believe me?
Can I just say it’s moments like that, when I’m shoving my face into an entire cake, that I feel the most grown up. I know that sounds completely backwards, but think about it. If I wasn’t a grown up, I’d totally get yelled out for doing something like that. But my house, my cake, my rules. I promise I only did this after all guests had left.
Enough about cake, lets talk about April. We have a big month ahead folks. First it’s Easter (and Whitney’s birthday!), followed by my birthday, followed by a long weekend in North Carolina! Sooooo excited for a mini-vaca. We’re visiting friends who moved down there and scheduling this visit was on my Get Sh*t Done list. Our friends have two labs too, so the boys are coming with us for one big crazy happy Lab Party. You can bet I’ll be sharing lots of pictures from the trip. We get back from NC just in time for Sara’s baby shower and Owen’s christening. Joey was asked to be Owen’s Godfather, so we’ll be practicing our Marlon Brando impressions starting now. We’re scheduled to round out the month with the Run Amuck mud run, but all the friends we were supposed to be running with are dropping like flies (way to get pregnant Kacie ;)), so our last weekend in April is TBD.
So what does April have in store for you? I hope it involves cake.
When it comes to working out, it is soooooo easy to make excuses. And if we’re being honest with ourselves, it’s also soooooo easy to make time each day for a workout. Whether it’s lifting some weights while you’re watching TV or lacing up your sneakers for the gym, you know you have time to fit it in somewhere, but it’s easier to act like you don’t.
I’ll be the first to admit I’ve become the excuse queen lately. I haven’t been taking the dogs for as long of walks as I should be (it’s tooo hotttt) or getting to spin class as religiously as I once was (I’m toooo tireddddd). Well, nothing motivates like the idea of having to be in a bikini for 5 days in front of lots of people you know, or will be getting to know. We leave for Alex’s Dominican Republic wedding in about 3 weeks, which means the excuses STOP TODAY.
At 6:45p I’ll be spinning my butt off (literally), and using our upcoming DR trip as the catalyst for a renewed commitment to regular workouts and eating better. It’s time to shape up before we ship out!
In a mere 3 months and some change, I’ll be hopping on a plane w/ the fiance enroute to the Dominican Republic for my bestie Alex’s wedding. The words, “I can’t wait” don’t even begin to describe how I feel. Alex recently changed the resort where her wedding will be held, and I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw the new venue, so naturally I had to share. Hold onto your seats people:
I wonder if it’s too late to score a “two-for-one” deal on weddings?! 😉
I can’t find inspiration for an interesting post so I decided to post about my lack of inspiration for a post. I’ve got lots of great questions from the WordPress Post a Day Challenge that should be helping the creative juices flow:
If you had a time machine that only let you spend one hour in a different time, what date would you go to?
Describe the wackiest but most useful advice you’ve ever received.
Do you believe everything happens for a reason? Why or why not?
What gives you hope? And what, if anything, makes you question hope? And what makes you question your questions of hope? And…
But I’m feeling all dried up! The underlying purpose of the Post a Day challenge is to write though, so in essence I’m successfully meeting that mark. I can’t say I’m really creating any interesting content though.
So when in doubt, post a picture! And what better place to go in our minds on such a freakin’ cold winter night than MEXICO! Here’s a fun pic of Joey from our trip to Riviera Maya a few years back, proving once and for all that White men can indeed jump. Well, off sandbars anyhow…
