Thanks for all the Birthday Love! The party continues tomorrow with a day off from work and a hot date night with the hubster 🙂 27 was definitely a year to be reckoned with, and I’m expecting big things from 28!
PS: Just published this post to see that it’s my 484th post…I was born in April of 1984…4/84. It’s a sign!
Two years ago today, I hit publish on my very first blog post. A virtual birthday gift to myself to remind me to be creative, be thoughtful, be happy, to always look for the beauty in life, celebrate the Little Big Moments and never, ever stop learning new things. Over the past two years, I think my little Blog has done just that. And for that, Blog, I thank you.
Mostly though, I thank each and every one of you who stops by my little corner of the world wide web each day/week/month to see what’s going on in my life, in the lives of those I love and in the world around me. Every click, comment, “Like” and subscription pushes me to want to Be Better. You all are awesome, plain and simple.
So, what’s in store for Year 3? You’ll have to stick with me to find out, but I’ve got high hopes for lots of wonderful things to come.
Hope everyone had a nice holiday weekend. Birthday week is officially in full swing! On Easter Sunday I got to make my first wish and blow out some candles on a cake that may or may not have been in the shape of a cross. Hey, I’ll take it! Tonight I had a lovely dinner date in the city with the one and only Alex, arriving at her house just early enough to catch her parents on the way out of town. And when I say ‘catch’, picture cars thrown into Park on opposing sides of the street for quick chinese-fire-drill-esque hugs.
Now aside from cake, the next best thing about birthdays is of course the presents 🙂
Thanks Mrs. C, I adore the pen! Moose and Riggo were very curious as to the jingling, but I assure you this puppy (ha!) will find a safe place on my desk at work.
Now lets talk about friends who know you maybe a little too well…
I believe the quote from Alex was, “Since I know you don’t like laundry, I thought this would help make it fun.” Ha! Every little bit will help. Plus this gift is very timely seeing as how I’ve had a dryer full of clean clothes since Saturday, so it will definitely need to be run again to release the wrinkles before I can fold. Oh stop, you know you do that too!
Talk about a day late and a dollar short but HELLO APRIL! April is pretty much my favorite month, and yes it has everything to do with the fact that it’s my birthday month. I love cake like a fat kid loves cake. Don’t believe me?
Can I just say it’s moments like that, when I’m shoving my face into an entire cake, that I feel the most grown up. I know that sounds completely backwards, but think about it. If I wasn’t a grown up, I’d totally get yelled out for doing something like that. But my house, my cake, my rules. I promise I only did this after all guests had left.
Enough about cake, lets talk about April. We have a big month ahead folks. First it’s Easter (and Whitney’s birthday!), followed by my birthday, followed by a long weekend in North Carolina! Sooooo excited for a mini-vaca. We’re visiting friends who moved down there and scheduling this visit was on my Get Sh*t Done list. Our friends have two labs too, so the boys are coming with us for one big
crazy happy Lab Party. You can bet I’ll be sharing lots of pictures from the trip. We get back from NC just in time for Sara’s baby shower and Owen’s christening. Joey was asked to be Owen’s Godfather, so we’ll be practicing our Marlon Brando impressions starting now. We’re scheduled to round out the month with the Run Amuck mud run, but all the friends we were supposed to be running with are dropping like flies (way to get pregnant Kacie ;)), so our last weekend in April is TBD.
So what does April have in store for you? I hope it involves cake.
Happy Happy HAPPY Birthday to an amazing friend, and fellow blogger, Pam101!!! Girlfriend’s turning 25 (again) ;), and I highly suggest you hightail it over to her blog and wish her a happy birthday. I mean, lets talk about someone who just grabs life by the horns. I think in the past 6 months alone this girl has moved from DC to Pittsburgh, taken an amazing cross country road trip that should be the envy of everyone, went to Nepal, started a new job that she loves, bought a fabulous new house and in a few weeks she’s off to Paris! I’m tired just thinking about it.
Pam, have an amazing day and may each year just keep getting better and better!!
While looking over my calendar yesterday I realized something I had overlooked — on Joey’s birthday, September 5th, I will be out of town for a bachelorette party! Now, as you may have noticed on my Summer List, this year isn’t just ANY birthday…it’s Joey’s 30th Birthday. And while I will be home the night of the 5th, I am filled with guilt that I won’t be around to vocally countdown the days and minutes of him saying goodbye to his youthful-twenties and entering his THIRD DECADE of life. (Note to readers, I in no way think 30 is old but of course I have to incessantly tease J about becoming an ‘old man’ because I’m younger than him and…well, I’m younger than him.)
To atone for this sin, I’ve decided I really need to pull out all the stops for his birthday. Not only do I need to come up with a realllly awesome gift, but I have to throw an even more amazing party than I originally intended. Good thing I have a little time. And good thing the internet is filled with awesome party ideas.
I first thought about an “80s” theme party given that Joey was born in ’81. And given that we make for a pretty awesome “80s” couple…
But then I felt like an 80s theme was a little too ”been there, done that’ and stumbled across something I liked a little better – a pub-theme birthday party…
Beer, darts, soft pretzels, sliders, cornhole, flavored nuts in little bowls, BEER… it automatically felt more “Joey.” So that’s where my mind is today. I’d love to know if anyone else has a great idea for a 30th Birthday Bash. Extra d-spot points if you have photos for inspiration!
O, and Pam101…your 30th was amazing, but I’m not sure Joey would appreciate a life size cutout of Robert Pattinson 😉
Awesome friends: Check. Good wine: Check. Good food: Check. Good times: check, check, check.
Had a wonderful afternoon with a group of great friends at Black Ankle Vineyards in Mt. Airy, Maryland. The vineyard was beautiful and the wine was delicious (albeit a little on the expensive side, but definitely worth it). The only thing that would have made this day better was a little bit of sunshine, but hey, what are you gonna do?
I leave you now with the rarest of all jumping pictures, the never before seen quint-unison-jump!
Now for the outtake reel:
- The “Jumped the Gun” Jump Shot
The "Just a Smidge Too Early" Jump Shot
The "Not Too Shabby but We Can Do Better" Jump Shot
The "So Diana Thinks She Can Dance" Jump Shot
The "My Friends are Amazing For Jumping One Last Time" Jump Shot
Thank you so much to Joey, Kat, Chris, Sara, Emily B., Kacie, Bill, Emily E. and Mike for coming out to Black Ankle for the afternoon for a little day-drinking to celebrate my birthday! You all are the best! xoxoxo
Happy Friday everyone!!! Nothing like a little puppy love to start the weekend off right 🙂 Lots of celebratin’ happening this weekend as I bid farewell to 26 and usher in 27…which I think officially puts me in the “late 20s” category! How did that happen?!?
The good news is that somehow it just keeps getting better! Bring it on 27.
I love birthdays. Especially when they’re mine 😉 My birthday falls on a Monday this year, which is basically a free pass to celebrate all weekend long. And since the weekend is only a few days away, it’s perfectly acceptable to start on a Thursday night. See the logic?
I’ll be meeting two of the most fabulous ladies I know, Pam101 and August-Bridey-Alex, for dinner in the city tonight at Bistro Du Coin – a spot Pam101 introduced me to, and I must say that they have the best mussels I’ve ever had in my LIFE!!! I’ve been dreaming about them since we put this date on the calendar. We’ll also be belatedly celebrating Pam101’s Birthday, which obviously means we’ll have to order double the champagne. It’s a shame, I know.
See you tonight ladies!!!
While popping in and out of stores on Main Street in Annapolis on Saturday, I came across the most fabulous line of tote bags made out of…wait for it… recycled sailboat sails! It doesn’t get much more Maryland than that! It’s from a retailer called Re-Sails, and they don’t just stop at tote bags – they sell vests, shorts, pillows, belts, hats, even dog collars…and more.
They apparently have an entire store in Annapolis at 42 Randall Street, but there’s a store on Main Street that carries their line of bags. I don’t remember the name because, ya know, the whole popping in and out not paying attention thing.
I’m tote-ally (see what I did there with the play on words? Clever, eh?) in love with the rope handled tote bag above with the number 5. These puppies aren’t cheap though, so if you were wondering what to get me for my birthday, which just happens to be April 11, don’t say I didn’t give you any ideas.
PS – Someone email this post to Joey – we all know he doesn’t read this blog!
