You know how in sports they have the expression “leave it all out on the field,” meaning give it all you got, put every ounce of energy, passion, skill into the game. Well this was one of those weeks at work where I left it all out on the field. Which may explain why it’s Friday night at 9pm and I’m curled up in bed with +two dogs, -one fiance and my favorite novel from my favorite writer, Jane Austen.
I’m ashamed to say I can’t remember the last time I sat down with a good book. But when I pulled Jane off my night stand and read the first few lines of Pride + Prejudice, I felt relaxed, transported and tranquil – exactly what the doctor ordered.
I have a busy weekend ahead filled with visits with friends, pre-thanksgiving dinner with family, and an insanely girly day in the city Sunday with two of my favorite ladies. And like work, when it comes to time with family and friends, I’m going to leave it all out on the field. Work hard, play hard.
But in the words of Dr. Seuss, another of my favorite authors, “remember that life’s a great balancing act.” Which is why tonight I’m laying low and recharging, and I’m loving every second of how quiet the house is right now. Me time.
Cheers to the freakin weekend. I hope you find the balance you need too to keep you going full steam ahead!
